Teaching and Learning Minor
The Teaching and Learning minor provides access to foundational field-based learning experiences in our undergraduate teacher education program to students in other majors who are interested in schooling and in working with teachers, educators, and/or families but who do not intend to work as classroom teachers themselves. The minor will also provide foundational learning experiences for non-Education majors who are interested in substitute teaching, and it includes electives allowing students to specialize in areas of interest in education, as well as internships and other experiences that are tailored to those interests.

Learning Outcomes
- Students interested in a profession that requires educating others or providing professional development will learn principles and strategies of effective educational systems and strategies for working with diverse children, families and communities.
- Students will participate in alternative experiences in a variety of educational settings, including multiple site visits to a variety of schools or internships that are missing from many related LUC majors, even in cases where graduates will go on to do work that relates to or intersects with that of schools.
- Undergraduates will be better prepared for roles as short-term substitute teachers under recent ISBE guidelines with a better foundational and pedagogical knowledge than those who apply for that license with no background or coursework in education.
